As many of you know, Keller Logistics Group’s Operation K.A.V.I.C. has raised thousands of dollars over the past several years to assist our local veterans in Defiance County. Additionally, Keller Trucking has been involved with numerous initiatives such as Wreaths Across America, Soles4Souls, Women in Trucking and much more. This year got off to a gloomy, gray start. So, it was our goal to broaden the scope of our community involvement even further by adding a splash of color to our equipment for good causes.
In early 2020 a survey was released to all Keller employees requesting that they name a cause, charity or initiative that was meaningful to them. We then pledged to fully wrap a brand-new, 2020 Volvo VNL760 with elements of the consensus response. As the responses came in, they were overwhelmingly in favor of causes, charities or initiatives directly related to Autism Awareness.
Touching, personal stories were shared, and it was eye-opening as to how many families are actually affected by Autism in some way. The “Charity Truck” was born. Not only will this 2021 Volvo will be traveling the country supporting our latest cause of Autism Understanding & Acceptance, but also a hefty percentage of this truck’s revenue will be donated to causes, charities and initiatives related to Autism and youth development within our community.
The truck has already been busy and has commissioned its first community project. We and the “Charity Truck” are working with other local organizations to build a fence around our community’s park and Splash Pad to enhance children’s safety. A Kaitlyn’s Cottage employee says, “It’s awesome what Keller is doing for Autism Awareness with the semi. I just wanted to say thanks. Seriously, when I saw pictures, I was crying. Having a fence at the Splash Pad will make it so much easier for us to take our participants with Autism there without as much worry. Seems like something so little, but it’s huge to the families and community members who have a person with Autism in their life.”
As mentioned, the truck will be traveling to various locations all throughout the country delivering freight. So, keep an eye out for it in your area! The truck is currently assigned to one of our professional drivers who has someone in his family with Autism.
